Key Responsibilities

The IT Production Support Assistant works under the direction of a Team Lead or Section Manager to support production applications operating in mainframe and midrange computing environments. This role ensures reliable execution of production jobs, supports application deployment processes, and maintains operational stability in a 24/7/365 environment.

 

  • Support production jobs in mainframe and midrange server environments, including job creation, scheduling, execution, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

  • Manage and monitor batch processing using scheduling tools such as Control-M.

  • Support COBOL-based mainframe applications using source code management tools (Endevor) to promote program packages and source members at the request of application developers.

  • Participate in paired programming sessions for training and knowledge sharing.

  • Review, update, and submit procedural documentation; contribute to team presentations and knowledge-building initiatives.

  • Manage incident and service request tickets using tracking tools (e.g., Cherwell), documenting actions taken and resolutions.

  • Coordinate and control mainframe console operations, including device assignment, responding to operator messages, and managing input/output processes.

  • Execute scheduled jobs in compliance with established operational standards and procedures.

  • Perform multiple operational tasks during assigned shifts in a continuous coverage environment

    Experience Requirements

    • Minimum two (2) years within the last five (5) years supporting IBM mainframe operations and production control environments.

    • Experience using Control-M for ordering, holding, submitting, canceling, and monitoring production jobs.

    • Minimum two (2) years within the last five (5) years working in a data center environment, interacting with customers and managing incident tickets using tools such as Cherwell.

    • Minimum two (2) years within the last five (5) years working with Endevor to manage application programs and source elements including JCL, PROCS, and control statements.

    • At least one (1) year of experience operating a commercial high-speed printer (e.g., Canon varioPRINT 6220 TITAN MICR) for high-volume print production.
